Images for your dishes: your own photo, the image selection and labelling AI images

Every dish can have an image – in the step „Bild", the last of the seven steps when creating or editing a dish. You have two routes there: upload your own photo or take one directly with the phone camera, or pick a ready-made image from the Bildauswahl (image selection). Images from the Bildauswahl count as AI images and carry the notice automatically – a „KI" badge on the image and, in the enlarged view, the sentence „Diese Abbildung wurde mit künstlicher Intelligenz erstellt." (EU AI Act, Art. 50). Your own photo stays without that notice as long as you do not label it as an AI image yourself.

Where you set the image

The image field sits inside the dish itself: panel → Speisekarte → dish → step Bild. When you create a new dish it is step 7 of 7; only the name and the category are mandatory, the image is optional. The order of the steps is described in Create a new dish. Categories also have their own image field – so not only the individual dish gets a face, but the section „Pizza" or „Desserts" in your digital menu as well.

Your own photo: upload it or shoot it on the spot

You upload a file from your device (Datei hochladen) or photograph the dish straight away with your phone camera (Foto aufnehmen) – from inside the panel, without the detour via a computer. The image can be deleted or swapped at any time. As a recommendation the system names landscape, well-lit images from 1200 px wide. That way the plate photo from the kitchen goes straight onto the menu instead of staying on a phone in the kitchen.

Bildauswahl: when you do not have your own photo yet

The Bildauswahl holds ready-made dish images that are available across the platform. You pick one and the guest sees it in consistent quality. These images are AI images – which is why they carry the notice automatically, without you having to think about it. They do not replace a real photo of your dish, but they prevent the grey empty boxes that make a fresh menu look unfinished.

If you add nothing: the Bilderbank suggestion

A dish without an image automatically receives a fitting image from the Bilderbank (image bank) – likewise with the „KI" badge and the notice. If you do not want that, switch on „Bilderbank-Vorschlag ausblenden" in the dish; the dish then appears without an image. The image bank can also be blocked for a whole category, so that no substitute image shows up there. The decision is yours, not the system.

When a „KI" notice appears – and when it does not

Under the EU AI Act (Art. 50), images created with artificial intelligence are labelled. In practice this means:

Images from the Bildauswahl and suggestions from the Bilderbank count as AI images and carry the notice automatically.
For your own photo the notice appears only if you label it as an AI image yourself – that is one click in the dish.
Labelled images show a „KI" badge and, in the enlarged view, the sentence „Diese Abbildung wurde mit künstlicher Intelligenz erstellt."
Placeholder images receive no notice.
Only images are labelled, not texts.

To be honest about it: the system cannot detect whether a photo you upload yourself was generated with AI. You set that switch – the judgement and the responsibility for it remain with you. The details are in Add images & label AI images.

Who is this worth it for?

For everyone who is building a menu right now: with the Bildauswahl you publish a fully illustrated menu in one sitting and add your own photos afterwards – image by image, without rebuilding the menu. For kitchens with changing daily specials the camera shot is worth it, because the photo lands on the dish without any file transfer. And if you are taking over an existing menu, the route goes via digitising the menu from a photo; you add the images afterwards in the step „Bild".

Images beyond the menu: logo and homepage

You manage your logo in the Logo-Studio in the Restaurantinfos area: upload by selecting a file, drag-and-drop or pasting. Saved logos collect in a gallery of up to 12 logos, from which you choose the active one; the active logo then appears automatically in the navigation, header and footer, as the favicon and as the preview image when sharing. Under Startseitenbilder you add up to five photos: the first one, or the one marked as favourite, becomes the large hero image, the rest appear in the gallery „Ein Blick ins Restaurant". Without a photo this gallery area stays hidden. The colouring of your restaurant website can follow your own images automatically; you do not have to set anything for that. Can I take dish photos directly with my phone?
