PayPal setup: consent to data sharing
Before we can set up a PayPal merchant account for your restaurant, PayPal requires your explicit consent to data sharing ("SHARE_DATA_CONSENT"). This page explains what that means.
What this is about
PayPal connects your merchant account to our platform through a partner interface. For that to happen, PayPal needs to know that you agree to certain data being exchanged between PayPal and us. Without that consent we are not allowed to start the setup — and technically we do not start it either.
Which data is exchanged
- The details you provide to PayPal yourself, or enter in the PayPal setup dialog (business data, contact data, identity verification details).
- Your PayPal merchant id and the status of your account: whether it is activated and whether payments and refunds are possible.
- The identifier under which we run your restaurant (your subdomain), so PayPal can route its answer to the right account.
- Payment and refund events of your guests, as far as they are triggered through the platform — we need those to mark orders as paid and to show your revenue correctly.
What we do NOT do
We do not open a PayPal account in your name and we do not accept PayPal agreements for you. Your contract is directly between you and PayPal; you complete the identity verification with PayPal yourself. We never receive your PayPal password or access to your PayPal account.
Legal basis and voluntariness
The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR together with Art. 7 GDPR. Consent is voluntary: you may skip the PayPal setup and use the platform without PayPal — online payment for your guests also works through Stripe. PayPal Inc. is based in the USA, so the setup involves a transfer to a third country, based on the EU Commission Standard Contractual Clauses.
Evidence of your consent
We permanently store: the time of consent, the version of this text, the language it was shown to you in, the e-mail address of the consenting person, IP address, user agent and the context of the action. That is exactly the evidence Art. 7(1) GDPR requires from us — and nothing beyond it.
Withdrawal
You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. Disconnect PayPal in your admin area under "Online payments", or send us a short message. After a withdrawal we set nothing further up with PayPal; your PayPal account itself is cancelled or changed directly with PayPal.
